Together,
for a healthy future.
2024-2025 Impact report

For 50 years now, the CHUS medical teams have been supporting the Eastern Townships population with skill and dedication.
Over the past year, we have proudly celebrated this significant anniversary, a symbolic half a century of collective commitment to the health of our community. Day after day, we work together to maintain this dynamic institution, support its development and increase its ability to offer high quality specialized and superspecialized care, right here in the Eastern Townships. We are privileged to be able to count on a university hospital in our region.
Thanks to generous donors and the commitment of our partners, we have been able to contribute to making the CHUS a unique and recognized care and educational institution over the years. Once again throughout this past year, your generosity has shone through to allow us to continue our mission as evidenced by this impact report.
Thank you!
A word from the direction
The year 2024-2025 was rich in changes for the entire healthcare system that continues to face numerous challenges.
The CHUS Foundation seized this period as an opportunity for strategic reflection to carefully plan ways to maximize impact over the coming years. Our priority remains clear: to meet growing health needs and to support promising projects that will make a true difference on the front lines.
Together, let's pursue this mission and take action to build a healthy future for all!

Financial statements
Staying focused on growth
2024-2025 Results
Our philanthropic community did a remarkable job once again this year, whether in the form of donations or participation in our fundraising activities, this commitment is reflected in our financial results. Many promising projects for the CHUS were presented to our donors who responded with great generosity.
Revenues reached a record high in 2024-2025! Net revenues, generated by the Foundation's operations, excluding the variation in value of investments, has doubled over the past five years. The CHUS Foundation aims to maintain continued revenue growth in a context where the needs, already great, are becoming increasingly urgent.
Consult the 2024-2025 financial statementsPercentage of sources of income before changes in the fair value of investments.
Where do donations go?
Thanks to your generosity, we are able to achieve our goals, which are to support as many priority projects as possible in order to meet the growing needs of the population and the CHUS teams with a working environment aimed at excellence in care. Whether by purchasing the latest generation of equipment in various fields and specialities or by supporting medical research, we work together with the establishment to bring added value to this center of expertise.
Projects making an impact
Having a positive impact on the journey of those afflicted by illness is an undeniable motivator. Regardless of the size of the project funded, patients are at the very heart of our concerns.
Here are a few examples for whom, thanks to your contribution,
you are making a difference...
The Versa, a latest generation linear accelerator, was delivered last November to the radiation oncology center at Fleurimont Hospital! This powerful device is also highly impressive. A crane was required for the installation in a newly renovated space in order to integrate itinto the service.
The linear accelerator makes it possible to target cancerous tumors with great precision, while preserving the healthy tissue around it. On March 17, 2025, after a period of installation and calibration, the first treatments were administered with this new equipment.

450 radiotherapy treatments were offered at the CHUS over the past year.
A new CT scanner has also been added to the equipment fleet in order to meet growing needs. This important equipment complements linear accelerators to plan radiation treatments. These devices make it possible to visualize with greater precision the tumour to be treated and better preserve organs. They facilitate the work of dosimetry personnel.
“Our objective remains the same: to treat each user with the best possible care. The arrival of an accelerator is much more than a simple piece of equipment. The Versa opens the door to continuous learning, by exposing us to innovative treatment techniques. Thanks to it, sessions are often shorter and better targeted, especially for pathologies that requires it. This reinforces our confidence during treatment and improves the overall care experience.”

A special thank you to the donors who contributed to the acquisition of the linear accelerator: J.A. Bombardier Foundation and Forage FTE Drilling.
The Gentle Care program was created thanks to the hard work of a volunteer team of caregivers meeting the needs of children in the emergency room at Fleurimont Hospital.

From left to right: Kary-Ann Nolet, clinical nurse, Dr. Fannie Péloquin, emergency physician, and Jessica Pouliot, orderly. Three of the 12 staff members behind the Gentle Care program.
“What the medical literature shows is that children dread medical consultations when they have experienced pain or fear during a previous visit. This apprehension can have long-term consequences. So we asked ourselves how to humanize and improve the care offered to children.”

The first key: distraction
Thanks to donations, many tools have been made available to staff, such as virtual reality headsets, headphones, sensory toys, screens, 3D glasses and search-and-find murals that attract children's attention. Other types of items, such as pain-relieving creams or vibrating devices, complete the pain kit and promote the child's collaboration in receiving care.
Emergency personnel also have access to training tools to properly implement Gentle Care, a program that clearly has its purpose since three out of ten visitors to the Fleurimont Hospital emergency room are children!

A program that's attracting attention!
A special thank you to Kurling for Kids for making this program possible through their donation.
The expertise of the CHUS pediatric intensive care specialists is transported to children's bedsides, regardless of which institution they are in, and even in the ambulance!
Remote assistance allows healthcare teams in various emergency rooms across the Eastern Townships to consult with CHUS specialists who can, thanks to a camera installed in the various establishments, guide them in more complex situations.
When a transfer to the CHUS is necessary, the specialist can remotely advise the team on which actions to take using holographic glasses with a camera, HoloLens, during the ambulance ride.
This technological advance makes it possible to offer all children the best care in real time.
An innovation that's attracting attention!

Martin Clermont, CHUS Foundation general manager, Karine Duchaineau, assitant general manager and Dr. Stéphane Tremblau, CEO of the CIUSSS-CHUS.
Special thanks to Enfant Soleil who contributed to this project as well as financing various equipment for continuous dialysis in pediatric intensive care units and booster pumps on loan at home to reduce the length of hospitalizations. Intensive follow-up for young people with mental health issues will also be able to continue thanks to this contribution.
Creating meaningful relationships and moving towards better social integration is a major goal of artistic workshops now available for CHUS patients who struggle with mental health issues.
Expressing oneself through art opens new doors for people who have access to this complementary therapy option. The workshops are offered by the organization Les Impatients and were set up by the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Programs at the CHUS.
“We believe that mental health is everyone's business. That is why we focus on collaboration and partnership, in order to offer the most complete range of care and services possible. The establishment of these workshops is a good example.”

director of mental health and addiction programs, CIUSSS de l'Estrie – CHUS
In this first year of existence in Sherbrooke, Les Impatients gallery welcomed 37 people, the majority of whom participated in the inauguration opening in May 2025. Bright and moving testimonies were heard at the same time.

“At the first workshop, I was in a dark place and was still having suicidal thoughts.. Les Impatients allowed me to realize that I was worth it. I am still very fragile, but now I feel like I have a reason to get up in the morning! I am starting to want to live again, to get off my couch and do activities. Thanks to Les Impatients, I am choosing to stay alive.”

An Impatient
“When I started going to Les Impatients, I was not working because I was experiencing a severe depression. I felt like I didn't belong anywhere. Then, I discovered a space where I felt accepted and valued. In the last few months I have found two jobs. I am fine!”

An Impatient
The media are talking about it!
A special thank you to the Carmand Normand Foundation for financing the purchase of artistic equipment.
Inspiring collaborations!
In a context where the healthcare network is changing, the CHUS Foundation is broadening its horizons to participate in the implementation of projects that will make a big difference for patients throughout their care journey. A vision that has complementary missions, but the same objective: to continually improve services offered to the Eastern Townships population.
Aging is an inevitable stage of life, and it is sometimes accompanied by neurocognitive disorders that strongly interfere with daily life. Thanks to a collaboration between the CHUS Foundation and the VITAE Foundation, a third prosthetic unit was added in the summer of 2024 at the Argyll Hospital and Residential Center.
This new environment is suitable and safe for residents with complex behavioral and psychological symptoms that may be associated with dementia, other cognitive disorders, or loss of autonomy.
“ This unit meets accommodation needs for elderly clients with cognitive disorders are often hospitalized while waiting for a suitable place in a long-term care facility. It was only natural for our Foundation to support this project.”

CHUS Foundation General Manager
“This project meets housingneeds for elderly patients in cognitive decline who are too often hospitalized while waiting for a place adapted to their needs in CHSLDs. This first collaboration between our foundations made it possible to pool our solicitation efforts in order to set up this new unit more quickly.”

VITAE Foundation General Manager
The new unit has 36 single rooms, offers a welcoming environment with the objectives, in particular, of strengthening physical and emotional safety, promoting the maintenance of capacities, reducing disruptive behaviors and limiting the excessive use of physical or chemical constraints.

Louise and Michel
A pharmacist is now available three days a week at the Val-du-Lac service centre, a rehabilitation center in Sherbrooke associated with the CIUSSS de l'Estrie-CHUS for young people facing difficulties.
In collaboration with the Fondation du Centre Jeunesse de l'Estrie, the CHUS Foundation contributes to the financing of this resource, who meets each young person and provides personalized follow-up.
“A majority of young people receive medication to treat a variety of physical or mental conditions. We realized that the medication is heavier than we thought and the objective is to reassess each young person and offer what is best for their situation in order to avoid over medication. It is also a research project where we document our interventions and collect data, which will allow the publication of a scientific article. The Centre Jeunesse de l'Estrie is the first in Quebec to launch such a project and could become a source of inspiration for other institutions.”

Head of the pharmacy department, CIUSSS de l'Estrie - CHUS
This innovative idea was inspired by a similar approach implemented with the elderly population in senior care facilities in order to promote deprescribing while improving quality of life.
The Brigitte-Perreault Fund celebrates its 20th anniversary
The year 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the Brigitte-Perreault Fund, which contributes to improving the quality, safety and humanization of care offered in hospitals in Sherbrooke.
This fund was created in memory of Dr. Brigitte Perreault, gastroenterologist recognized for her human approach and appreciated by her patients, colleagues and students. She died of cancer at the age of 30.
“We wanted her beautiful values, where the patient is at the heart of care, to continue and that is why we created this fund”

Fund initiator and former professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Sherbrooke.
During the celebrations, Brigitte's parents, Gilles and Paule Perreault, were honored for their involvement with the Fund. A space has been dedicated to them in Les Trails de la Santé, a project partly financed by the Fund on the grounds of the Fleurimont Hospital.

A special thank you to Ms. Catherine Bédard, a generous donor to the Brigitte-Perreault Fund.
The flagship project of 2024 — 2025
A change of culture is taking place in the CIUSSS de l'Estrie - CHUS in order to further include caregivers and the Brigitte-Perreault Fund is a great ally in this shift. This is an important project for the fun which finances training tools up to $75,000, as it ensures the implementation of a more inclusive approach. Several pilot projects have been launched and the new vision is well established in the intensive care unit where staff include loved ones during daily medical visits.
“Increasingly, the Brigitte-Perreault Fund wants to encourage projects that involve patients' caregivers, whether family or friends. Relatives are a mine of information and valuable allies during hospitalization or in preparing for leave. This type of project makes perfect sense for our Fund, which is dedicated specificallyto humanization in care.”

A committed community
What a successful year! As some activities become true traditions and others continue to progress, several new community initiatives have been added to the calendar this year. Out of 46 fundraisers designed and carried out by people in the community, half were first-time events!
Amount generated by activities held in 2024-2025:
Brian's example
Brian Bolduc is an example of resilience and generosity! Suffering from a very aggressive and incurable brain cancer, he ran a half-marathon last fall to raise funds to support research conducted by his neurosurgeon and neuro-oncologist at the CHUS, Dr. David Fortin. He raised a nice sum of $2,200! A few months later, Brian sadly passed away on March 22, 2025.
The father of three children travelled regularly between his place of residence in Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce and the CHUS; he was determined to stay with his family as long as possible. A few years ago, life expectancy with this type of cancer was only 9 months, now, thanks to research, it is 25 months.

… and other examples of inspiring initiatives!

For 5 years now, Mélanie Grégoire has been involved with her team to make the month of March the Baby plant month in Quebec. Mother of a very premature baby and also a businesswoman, she puts her passion for horticulture at the service of the cause in order to raise funds that are redistributed in the neonatal units of regional hospitals in addition to supporting research. A record amount of $237,206 was harvested this year of which $132,579 were awarded for the CHUS.

The Caillou family and many colorful characters came to life under the pen of director Stéphane Baillargeon in a play presented by the Troupe des é·es du CHUS. Thanks to their commitment and their contagious energy, an impressive sum of $27,885 was raised for the benefit of the Foundation of the CHUS. We would also like to highlight the exceptional work of René Dubreuil, who is retiring from the troupe after more than 20 years of devotion.

Solidarity in business!
Several members of the Eastern Townships business community commit to health by becoming an Entreprise Papillon. By giving a portion of the sale of a selected product or by inviting customers to make a donation at the cash register, these companies highlight their philanthropic values while making a tangible contribution to the Foundation's mission. Thanks to the Entreprise Papillon seal, introduced in 2021, the cause is also gaining visibility throughout the region. Thanks for being a part of the movement!

Excavation Désourdy's Commitment
Bromont businessman Louis Désourdy and his family are extremely grateful for the care provided to their son Maurice, who suffers from juvenile diabetes, and because they want to support research in this field they decided to do their part and contribute to the CHUS Foundation.
In 2017, little Maurice, then 4 years old, was urgently hospitalized at the CHUS with abnormally high blood sugar levels. That's when the diagnosis was made. “The emergency physician was surprised that our son was still conscious,” says his father, Louis Désourdy. “We felt confident and well guided. The quarterly follow-ups are invaluable. We are grateful to the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology! ”
Even before the creation of the Entreprise Papillon program in 2021, Excavation Désourdy gave the CHUS Foundation an amount for each container rented during the year and now does so as an Enterprise Papillon. The owner of Excavation Désourdy wants to make his customers aware of the cause and hopes that other entrepreneurs will also develop their philanthropic spirit!
Some inspiring fundraising ventures

Pharmacist Nathalie Marchesseault of the Proxim Group is one of the first to have obtained the Entreprise Papillon seal by encouraging her customers to donate $2 at the cash register, throughout the month of December.

Thanks to our volunteers!
Volunteer involvement is essential to our mission.
Regardless of their background, our volunteers all share the same desire: to offer a tangible contribution to improving the health of their community.
Their support, whether on a daily basis or during our charitable events, plays a decisive role in the success of our endeavors. Without its volunteers, the CHUS Foundation could not achieve its mission of having an impact on healthcare offered to patients throughout the region.
We owe them our deepest gratitude!
In 2024-2025, more than 200 volunteers generously volunteered their time and energy for the CHUS.
Recognition Gala
Each year, the Recognition Gala evening remains etched in the memory and heart! Taking the time to thank our volunteers during a festive and emotional event is a special moment to honour people who have distinguished themselves through exceptional contributions over the past year.

Jean-Besré Prize
The Jean-Besré Prize recognizes the remarkable and long-standing involvement of its recipient. This year it was awarded to Jean-Francois Berubé.
His term as Chairman of the Board of Directors ended in 2024, after more than 8 years of involvement in this decision-making body of the CHUS Foundation. He weathered the storm of the pandemic, in the midst of a major fundraising campaign, and demonstrated remarkable leadership with the permanent team, partners, volunteers and the philanthropic community in order to reach, and even exceed, the goal set for this major fundraiser.
Since his arrival as president in 2020, his goal was clear: to provide the Foundation's permanent team with the tools necessary for its development in order to increase revenues. This paved the way for reaching new heights!
Jean-François has always had the cause of health at heart and his sustained presence for many years on various occasions with the Foundation is matched only by his desire to do more for the community.
Each year, the CHUS Foundation holds its Recognition Gala to thank its volunteers for their involvement. While this is the perfect opportunity to recognize the importance of volunteering for an organization like ours, this special evening is also a special time to honour certain individuals for their exceptional contributions in various categories.

Two special tributes
To commemorate the unwaivering commitment of a young patient, Safia Leblanc, who died at the age of 17 from cancer in June 2024, the CHUS Foundation renamed the Patient Prize in her honor.
The Safia-Leblanc Prize is awarded to a person who receives or has received care at the CHUS and who is involved with the Foundation to promote its mission and raise awareness about the cause of health. Her parents, Isabelle Lapointe and Nicolas Leblanc, accepted this recognition with emotion, recalling how important it was for Safia to share her story and to call for donations in order to support research for pediatric cancers.
“Safia impressed everyone along the way. She will have left an indelible mark on people's hearts. This is also why the choice of this new name for this award is excellent and an honour for us! ” — Isabelle Lapointe, Safia's mother

A special tribute was also paid to honour businessman, Mr. André L'Espérance, who died in the fall of 2024. A great builder and committed philanthropist, he is at the origin of the Fonds de l'Espérance at the CHUS Foundation. For 12 years, this fund has been dedicated to financially supporting families of children hospitalized or receiving care at the CHUS.
“It was important for us to highlight this act of generosity that the L'Espérance family continues year after year. We wanted to thank him for this magnificent legacy he leaves to our community.” — Martin Clermont, General Manager of the CHUS Foundation

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
January 10, 2025 was a special moment for the CHUS Foundation, on the occasion of World Gratitude Day. This whole day was spent making calls, simply to thank you, dear donors, no matter how big or small your contribution! Doctors, members of the direction of the CIUSSS de l'Estrie — CHUS and volunteers joined our team for this great day of recognition.
In all, 575 people received a short phone call full of gratitude, sincere exchanges and shared smiles. A huge thank you to each and every one of you for believing in our mission and for contributing to continuing to improve healthcare here at home.

It is because of the mobilization of an entire community that the CHUS Foundation is able to proudly announce submit such a positive assessment of its actions. Together, we are doing more for our CHUS, and more for our health!
