Becoming a volunteer

“I've been working at the CHUS for 33 years, and for the past fifteen years, I've been organizing a friendly race to raise funds for intensive care. Each year, we bring together around fifty people and donate between $5,000 and $15,000 to the Fondation du CHUS. Thanks to this commitment, we were able to complete the financing of an ultrasophisticated microscope and support research grants. This sporting challenge has become a great way to combine my passion for racing with my desire to give back. It brings together my colleagues and also businesses in the region around a mobilizing and meaningful project, while respecting my values of healthy living in a setting that is both fun and competitive.”

“Volunteering is ingrained in my DNA! I go to the Fondation du CHUS office three days a week to do various administrative tasks. My retirement would not be as active without this involvement, which allows me to be useful and to realize myself in pleasure, without pressure! It's easy for me, because I've had the Foundation tattooed on my heart for years. I feel that I am really part of this dynamic team and I am privileged to be able to help them achieve their mission, which is to provide quality care in our hospitals in Sherbrooke.”

“The secret is to try it and not hesitate to get involved... It's a real sting! 20 years ago, I gave a hand to my uncle who was organizing the 12 hours of golf at the Fondation du CHUS. It was the start of a long history with this cause that is close to my heart and that affects everyone in our region. For 10 years, I was involved as a volunteer on the board of directors. I am also proud to have realized a slightly crazy idea, that of the Gourmet Dinner, which is in its 14th year and which is breaking records in attendance and donations! It is so satisfying to contribute, to mobilize your community for such a great cause and to work with a great team.”

“My dad always told me: The busiest people have the most time. So, I manage my agenda so that I can get involved and have a positive impact in my community! It was important for me to find the right cause. I arrived in Sherbrooke in 2019, and it was thanks to my father-in-law, who was already involved with the CHUS Foundation, that the trigger was made! The Foundation is like a small family that brings me so much positivity, that offers me the opportunity to meet new people and that helps me to progress in several areas of my life. Now, within the Relève Committee, I want to bring a breath of fresh air to the Foundation's activities and I see my involvement in the long term... in the very long term! ”

“My deep desire is to make a difference and to give back! While undergoing my treatments at the chemotherapy center in Fleurimont, I proposed to install a bell to mark the important moments experienced by the patients and to restore hope. I was the first to sound it at the end of my treatments! What a significant moment! Since then, in recognition of the hospital's excellent teams, I have been involved with the CHUS Foundation. As a patient, but also as a hospital employee, I am in a position to see the impact of donations on the quality of care! So I organized the black and white ball last fall to raise funds and, whenever the opportunity arises, I put on the ambassador hat! My volunteering embodies solidarity, mutual aid and humanism; essential values in any society that cares about collective well-being.”
