A wonderful summer for Charlotte and her family!

News

Last summer, she couldn't fully enjoy that long-awaited season. Today, she is finally planning her summer like all young people her age.

Do you remember Charlotte, our young ambassador for the Pediatric Oncology Fund? This teenager from Coaticook went through long periods of hospitalization and treatment for leukemia. Last summer, she couldn't fully enjoy that much-anticipated season.

Today, she is finally planning her summer like any other young person her age. She started the season with long-awaited moments; celebrating the end of elementary school and fulfilling a dream she'd had since the beginning of her illness: going to an all-you-can-eat buffet without restrictions, her immune system now being strong enough to allow her to enjoy this type of experience again.

The coming weeks still hold wonderful moments for her, including a stay at a camp surrounded by young people who have also been affected by cancer, family time in Old Orchard with her father, then a getaway to Ottawa with her mother.

Marie-Andrée, her mother, says emotionally: "Finally, Charlotte is enjoying a much more normal life. She has resumed her routines, both in terms of diet and daily activities. She continues to follow her medical protocol and attend her follow-up appointments, but there is no longer any trace of cancer."

Charlotte is finally reaching this milestone thanks to the specialized care offered at Fleurimont Hospital and the support of the CHUS Foundation. Today, 95% of children can be treated here, close to their families, compared to 25% in 2018. For families in the region, being able to stay in Sherbrooke during treatments is priceless. It means fewer trips, more familiarity, and more time together.

You can make a real difference. By supporting the Pediatric Oncology Fund, you help children like Charlotte receive specialized care, right here in Sherbrooke, surrounded by their families... and give childhood back its meaning!
