Planned Gift

Your planned gift can help us achieve great things! In comparison with a spontaneous gift, a planned gift fits into a financial and estate planning process. A planned gift is an individual decision: yours. Support the CHUS Foundation and in return, you can benefit from a number of interesting financial benefits.

Your planned gift can be:

  • A bequest
  • Life insurance
  • Critical illness insurance
  • Life annuity
  • Family endowment fund

Bequest:

In your will, you may choose to bequeath to the CHUS Foundation:

  • A fixed amount
  • A percentage of your estate or its balance
  • All or partial proceeds from a life insurance policy, an RRIF (registered retirement income fund) or an RRSP (registered retirement savings plan)
  • All other assets (stocks, real estate property, etc.)

Life Insurance

This is a way for you to offer a substantial gift without incurring a large expense.

  • Transferring an existing life insurance policy
  • Purchasing a new life insurance policy

Here is an illustrated example of a couple that purchased a new life insurance policy.

The couple pays the Foundation a premium of $1400 per year for 10 years.

The couple has thus purchased a life insurance policy of $100 000 of which the Foundation is the owner and beneficiary.

The couple receives $700 a year in income tax credits (50% of the donation).

Critical Illness Insurance

In the event that you are diagnosed by your physician with a critical illness covered by your policy, a lump sum (amount insured) will be paid if you survive 30 days following the diagnosis. Certain life insurance policies also factor in a refund for the insurance premiums paid after the coverage period if no claim has been made.

Life Annuity

A charitable gift annuity is a way to make a significant donation of capital, while ensuring an annual pension during your lifetime.

To do this, you cede to the CHUS Foundation capital that will be used to purchase an annuity from an insurance company. The annuity is based on the capital invested and the life expectancy of the donor-beneficiary.

Family Endowment Fund

An endowment fund… a gift for life!

Creating a family endowment fund is one way to ensure your donation lasts a lifetime.

An endowment fund is a permanent fund. The capital is your donation and all or part of your earned interest (investment earnings) is used for specific purposes, like purchasing equipment, research or even training in a relevant field.

An endowment fund can be established in honour or in memory of a family member or loved one. This type of fund often symbolizes a permanent tribute to a life story or personal accomplishment.

The sponsors of a family endowment fund are invited to share, in their own words, the driving force behind their family endowment fund in the Grand Livre de la Vie (big book of life) on display at the CHUS-Hôpital Fleurimont. Like life itself, each fund of this type contains a story within itself, worthy of retelling and preserving in our collective memory.

If the thought of creating your own fund does not appeal to you, it is entirely possible to make a donation to an existing endowment fund of your choice.
