Brigitte-Perreault Fund

Mission

The purpose of the Brigitte-Perreault Fund is to promote and innovate in the field of health care quality and safety. These two values were very close to Brigitte’s heart, a gastroenterologist at the CHUS who died at the age of 30 following her battle with cancer. Every year since 2006, the Brigitte-Perreault Fund has supported projects that are centered on the patients’ quality of life.

Background

From a young age, Brigitte was curious, bright and concerned about giving meaning to her life. Her choice of medicine was not surprising since she was sensitive to human suffering and wanted at all cost to help. Since autumn 2003, the CHUS was proud to count her among its specialists. She gained the admiration of her colleagues and trainees. On the job, her relationship with patients was based on providing a sense of security and high quality of care. Her humanism was evident in her greeting, smile, confidence, devotion and the way she explained clearly to patients what was happening to them. She took all the necessary time to reassure them. She was a model of professionalism.

At the beginning of 2004, her own health became a concern. Along with the diagnosis of cancer, she learned that she had only a few months to live. Her courage, strength, clear-headedness, and serenity during the illness were like a beacon to everyone. Surrounded by those close to her, Brigitte died in December 2004 at the age of 30 years.

A fund was established in her memory to promote and encourage innovation in patients’ quality of care and sense of security – two values dear to her heart.

Each year since 2006, the Brigitte Perreault Fund has invested in projects to improve patients’ quality of care.

Book - D'un Noël à l'autre (french)

Soon after the death of her daughter, Paule Lavoie-Perreault published a book that chronicled the pain, grieving and hope of a family caught up in the illness of one of its own.

This book could also have meaning to you. Whether or not you also experience a serious illness, D‘un Noel à l’autre stimulates reflection and understanding.

All profits from the sale of this book go to the Brigitte Perreault Fund of the CHUS Foundation. The fund supports projects that improve the quality and humanizing of care and the sense of security for patients, themes that were dear to Dr. Brigitte Perreault.

May her ideals live on forever…
